On a Sunday morning sidewalk, wishing Lord that I was at die Ou Pastorie!

The sounds of Arno Carsten or Crimson house can be heard filtering through the trees like the dappled sunlight on your Sunday lunch. Its soothing and calm tones make for a great get together with friends and family alike.

On the last Sunday of each month, the gardens fill with laughter and the gathering of the local clans both from the area as well as from Johannesburg.  In the warm summer sunshine and the chilly breeze of winter, this venue comes alive to the sultry tunes of local bands and solo artists.

With a menu that is filled with hearty fare and great choices, there is much to choose from and difficult to decide which one will tickle your taste buds. Its one of those menus where you have to come back again and again to keep trying different options.

From the starter menu there is the Deconstructed home seared beef Salad, with thinly sliced fillet, baked camembert with garlic, rosemary, toasted french loac served with mulled wine jelly or my personal favourite, Die Out Pastorie Chicken Liver Pate with melba toast, micro greens and Rooibos Tea Jelly.

The mains are a challenge. Its got such great choices that every choice is its own flavour and leaves you wanting more. Its one of those menu’s that ensures you book a week and spend each day testing a new flavour combination.

Butter Chicken Curry is a subtle and carefully spiced mild blended curry with creamy coconut and succulent chicken.

Die Ou Pastorie Duck Pie is just amazing in its flavours and puffy puffy pastry filled with duck and served with wine jelly, chips or a side salad.  The Pork Belly is slow cooked in Ginger and orange sauce.

Now when you reach the delectable sweet things, you just know you have to take some of them home.  From the Chocolate Mud cake which is a rich and moist double fudge cake served with caramel butterscotch sauce and cream, to the Cheesecake which is rich, famous and addictive and lastly the Assiette of Chocolate which is a white chocolate creme brulee and I challenge you to leave the restaurant without visiting the deli and taking it all home to start again tomorrow.

Together with the great ambience, whether you are having dinner in the dining room, on the patios that circumvent the old building or simply having Sunday lunch and listening to music, its a venue you will definitely remember and return to.
